NICARAGUA

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN NICARAGUA
Welcome to Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport of Managua, Nicaragua's capital city, of where your Coco Tours guide will be waiting. Visit of the craft market. If you arrive in late afternoon, the first night will be in Managua.

Colonial towns and volcanoes

Day 2: MANAGUA - GRANADA - MASAYA VOLCANO (travel time: 2 hours)
After breakfast, we will go to the Masaya Volcano National Park and climb the volcano (accessible to all) where we can observe the amazing Santiago crater in active since 1946. Pic-nic on the crater rim, and then we will go for a walk in an amazing cavity formed by the last eruption. Later in the afternoon, we go to Masaya colonial town counting over 1000 years of history. Day 3: GRANADA - LAGUNA DE APOYO

Day 5: GRANADA - ESTELÍ - OCOTAL
Transfer to Estelí, travel time: 2 hours and a half. On the way, we will cool off at Estanzuela's waterfalls. Thereafter, we will drive to Ocotal to visit the coffee hacienda San Isidro which offers a beautiful panoramic view as it is located in one of the highest region in Nicaragua. We will end our day with a visit at the ethnic village Monzonte known for its picturesque pottery industry. Back to Estelí for the night.

HONDURAS

Day 6: ESTELÍ - HONDURAS

Transfer to Comayagua, travel time: 4 hours and a half. Visit of the historic center of Comayagua where there is the oldest working clock on the entire continent of Americas. Santa Maria de la Nueva Valladolid de Comayagua or simply Comayagua was founded by the Yucatan's governor under the order of the King of Spain, Philip II, in 1537. Thanks to its strategic position between two oceans and half way from Guatemala to Leon (Nicaragua), Comayagua became the operational center of ecclesiastical power, civil, economic and cultural development of the region for the Spanish crown. In 1821, following its independence from Spain, the city becomes the capital of Honduras. Night in Comayagua.

Day 7: COMAYAGUA - TELA BAY

Transfer to the Caribbean coast, travel time: 5 hours. On the way, we will visit the famous Pulhapanzak waterfall and enjoy the beautiful landscape of Lake Yojoa during lunch. Once arrived to destination, we will first visit Tela, then go to the Garifuna village of Triunfo de la Cruz. TRIUNFO DE LA CRUZ is the largest GARIFUNA village in HONDURAS. The GARIFUNAS arrived in 1797 and have their own culture, major cultural wealth of the country, with their own dialect 100% spoken, gastronomy, rites from the voodoo, music and dance (Punta and Yancunu). In the afternoon, we enjoy the beaches in the afro-Caribbean atmosphere of this community.

Day 8: LOS MICOS LAGOON, PUNTA SAL

On our way to the National Park of Punta Sal, we will visit the Garifuna fishing village Bara Vieja before arriving in the picturesque village of Miami. From there, we will take a boat trip on the LOS MICOS LAGOON that will lead us through a beautiful visit in search of flora and fauna. During the last century, this National Park was the landmark of famous pirates such as the formidable William Parker. At lunch, we will enjoy a fresh fish cooked in a small Garifuna restaurant by the beach. Overnight in Triunfo de la Cruz.

Day 9: SOFT JUNGLE, WILDLIFE REFUGE

Expedition on a boat or tipical Garifuna canoes (cayucos) to the wildlife refuge of PUNTA IZOPO. Accompanied by the sounds of nature, we cruise through the jungle along the river Platano (Banana) through the mangroves. The fauna of this reserve is impressive with more than 185 bird species including toucans, and species as diverse as crocodiles, jaguars and howler monkeys among others. It is located near La CEIBA, has an area of ​​1073 km2 and 75% of its forest is virgin. Due to its altitude differences, it offers a flora and fauna incredibly diverse such as sloths, tapirs, jaguars and many species of butterflies. Activities: hiking, swimming, rest.

Days 12 and 13: CHOOSE...

Opcion # 1: 2 days: Chachahuate Atoll.

Morning departure for the Garifuna atoll CHACHAHUATE. Travel time: 2 hours.

Located in the Cayos Cochinos Archipelago, this small island is an enclave in the middle of the reef. According to local people's opinion, if there is a paradise on earth, it is there. This atoll, 240 meters long, is bordered by a white sand beach and crystal clear sea in the middle of the reef where hundreds of fish species remain: including coralfish, moonfish, groupers and thousands of colorful fishes! Chachahuate is part of a exceptional marine reserve because it is very little affected by man. Its tiny Garifuna population is traditional and very pleasant.
